1985 Toyota MR2 For Sale! NEW PRICE $3,200
We've gone through this car in-house pretty much from top to bottom. We built it to basically stock specifications using factory Toyota and various aftermarket parts. The car has a few non-factory upgrades like the drilled and slotted rotors, 89 3 spoke steering wheel, etc. The build is documented in pictures on this website and we have receipts for most if not all new parts purchased. Motor has been rebuilt by a local Toyota dealership mechanic with me and Dad lending a hand and learning a lot, transmission was replaced with a lower mileage 5 speed from an 87. Interior is nice but I'm waiting for a shift boot to come in. I replaced a few interior parts with stuff I had that was in better shape or that looked nicer. We swapped in an 89 style side fiberglass vent (I like the newer style vent better personally) but the 86 white metal vent will be included as well. We've got a ton of time in this thing and more than expected in parts. We were asking $3,900 for the car with everything we've done to it but have reduced the price to $3,200 to move the car. I'd be comfortable sending the car cross-country at this point. I've personally put just over 3,000 break in miles on the car with the new clutch and it is doing fantastic! The car drives great and is really smooth. Anyone looking for a freshly rebuilt gas saver that is a total blast to drive needs to check this car out! WAY cheaper than a hybrid or new cheaply built KIA and you're mileage is comparable but you've got Toyota 80's quality and you aren't stuck driving a boring / lame econobox!!
If you aren't familiar with the first generation MR2's 85 is the first year for the MR2 and it is a mid engine 2 seater. A lot of the 85's came factory with no rear window visor and no spoiler (like this car). Also the only year for the non-supercharged cars to have a rear sway bar! I added the front strut bar (factory sunroof bar so you can still stow the sunroof up front like usual). Manual windows/locks, climate control with no A/C compressor currently on the car... old compressor was shot so we pulled it. I have priced replacement A/C gear and we're talking like 300-400 bucks for new everything (aside from the hard lines which appear to be fine).

I have some good eyebrows for the front but haven't gotten them stripped, painted and on the car yet.

Car has been garaged or covered since we went through it.

Carpet is dirty in this picture, I should have vacuumed it before I took pictures, my bad. Carpet looks pretty good, no tears or bad discolorations or anything.
Rust spot by driver's door upper corner... just surface rust, no rot through, but I'm not trying to hide anything.

I like the non-spoiler non-visor look, but I have other trunks with spoilers if you wanted to change it over (not painted to match though).

The newer style side vent!

Front air dam tabs were rewelded/repaired. One was bent and the other was broken off completely. Front lip is now in good order!
Front indicator lights replaced with clear lenses instead of orange.

Not only is the engine bay REALLY clean, there are NO drips of ANY KIND under this car.
