1986 Toyota MR2 Hardtop ex-racer to street car project
Ok, so the story on this car is this. I got a good deal on the chassis but just the chassis. It was a clean title car that had been raced for a little while with a Supercharged motor swap. The supercharged motor and transmission were kept and a nice mr2oc member from Raleigh hooked me up with a solid project. I loaded the car up on a trailer and brought the car back to Mineral Springs and began tracking down parts from wrecked or junked MR2's and I purchased a parts car to swipe a few key components from including a rebuildable 4age motor and what is reported to be a good 5 speed transmission, if not I will purchase a replacement and put it in. I also have access to another 4age mated to an auto transmission and it also needs a rebuild/refreshing and both engines have around 150k miles. The body of the car is very clean to have been a race car. I replaced a lot of lightened parts that were race specific (fixed position headlight buckets that were cut with no motors, and some fun stuff like that). I can build the car to suit a prospective buyer provided we work something out. I can fit whatever shocks, brake pads, tires, etc that the buyer desires as the car needs all this stuff anyway so I can even put in cams or adjustable cam gears and fun stuff like that while I've got the engine out of the car. Lots of options at this point and in the end someone will have a nice road going MR2 in solid mechanical condition. Paint still looks good aside from the front fender where the crease is. Slight surface rust there but not a problem. We plan to repair and paint match the front fender. Price will depend on how much I end up with tied up in the car and what upgrades or stock parts we use. I want this thing to see the road again :).
Here are some pictures.
When I brought the car home it needed a little attention and had been sitting a while.

But with a little work it started to clean up really nice...

Passenger side was already cleaned some, but I've got to got to work on the door bumper sticky leftovers...

Interior had definitely seen better days... speaker holes in the door panels, holes in the door panels, no carpet, nothing in the dash really other than the cluster... I had a lot to gather but had a good start with the seats and dash!

Here is a shot of the car in the garage... I was already tinkering with the interior at this point.

You might can make out the fender damage... only reported accident on carfax, otherwise title and car is clean!! Paint even cleans up nice!

Here the parts car is beside the hardtop... both have gotten some attention if you can't tell.

Here is a shot of them from the rear the same day...
And here are the old school ICW 5 spokes I've got for it... just missing one center logo, otherwise they should clean up pretty nice! This is just after I pulled them off the car and I hadn't cleaned them at all yet and the center caps are out of them too so they look a little odd without those in place but I have all of them.

If you're interested in the car you can contact me at backyardmr2parts@yahoo.com or on the MR2oc.com or MR2.com where I'm curvesrgood on the boards. As I said above at this point I can pretty much build to suit, or I'll be putting the car back together to my chosen specs soon. Price will depend on parts used and what all has to be purchased. Thanks for checking out the project in-progress! We've also been working on several other projects and cars so I haven't been working as much on this lately, but I'm about to get back to it.
