Backyard MR2 Stage 1 Engine Decklid
This is our first attempt at a custom engine cover for the first generation MR2. We start with a factory N/A frame and plasma cut out the sections we don't need to improve airflow. We have a custom fabricated section that then is set down onto the N/A frame and bolted down with a seal around it to prevent rattling and water leaking. We also take an aluminum block and mill out vents to match the lower panel of the AW11 (see first photo below). We wanted to keep some factory design items to carry over into the custom parts so we used these in both the decklid and the scoops. This block bolts in with 3 screws (provided).

The decklid has 5 rows of louvers with 8 louvers per row. We don't have the equipment in-house to do this so we have to farm this out. This accounts for a large portion of the cost of this item. The decklid has a nice rise from front to rear mimicking the rake of the car and spoiler. We tried to make it follow the angular lines of the car and avoided overly curved items on such a "boxy" style 80's car.

Here is a side shot of the car/engine cover...

another side shot... lower and more direct from the side with less angle

lid raised (requires modified/shortened hood prop or gas strut set)

While I'm sure this lid isn't for everyone, if you're interested in purchasing one contact me or watch here for listings as they become available in small batches. There aren't many custom options available for the first generation cars, so we're trying a few new things!
