Backyard MR2 Custom MR2 Side Scoops
This is our first shot at matching functional side scoops for the first generation MR2. I'll explain how we make these functional... the driver's side scoop requires a cut through the side of the car and into the engine bay where the air enters the scoop and travels through a pipe into a sealed box so that only outside cooler air is pulled into your engine. Cooler air = happier engine and cooler air also means more horsepower. The scoop does not stick out far off the side of the car so that it produces minimal drag/turbulence on the side of the car. It is angled in and does not require movement of the fuel filler or filler door. The battery does have to be relocated to either the trunk or the frunk. Your choice and we'll try to provide a kits with what you need to relocate to either location. The passenger side vent retains the factory puller fan, but the size of the hole is reduced to match the scoop size of the driver side. Installation of scoops and patching part of the factory hole clearly require welding, so please consult a professional body person before purchase to make sure they can handle the install and fitting. Or if you are a body person, make sure you can handle the fitting/install. Once I finish the CD-ROM Video I can provide one of these at minimal cost to anyone who wants to see the install process and then decide if this is a project you really want to tackle!

Driver's side scoop... the tricky part was not moving the fuel filler while making the scoop functional.

Passenger side scoop... note the vent section can easily be taken out with 3 screws to repaint any paint chips it may pick up (they can get a few rock chips as they stick out on the side a little).

In this picture you can see a few chips... I've run these for more than a year and have put at least 10,000 Miles on the car on mostly country roads and that's the extent of my rock chips on one side. You can see the three screws here. I didn't clear coat these either, just hit them with some flat black.

Check the other pages for other views of these scoops too... they can be seen in most shots of my N/A. Hopefully these will be available soon!!
